This humble building in small-town Texas houses one of America’s greatest private art collections

by Sam Lubell

Wallpaper*, the international design magazine, ran a feature on ARTHOUSE by architecture critic Sam Lubell.

The article traces the collection Mickey and Jeanne Klein assembled over close to five decades, including work by Olafur Eliasson and James Turrell, and their decision to open it to a community that has not had access to work at that level.

On the building itself, Lubell writes about the locally quarried limestone and the contemporary metal elements, and how the two together produce an exhibition space that holds its own without pulling focus. The piece also notes the Kleins’ connection to Houston patron Dominique de Menil.
